Building Homes, Building Hope: Alex Gunby’s Journey as a Real Estate Agent & SNF Ambassador

Can you share a bit about yourself so we can get to know you before we jump right in?

My name is Alex Gunby and I’m a real estate agent based in Hamilton, Ontario. I was born and raised here, but growing up I moved through many of Hamilton’s different neighbourhoods, which gave me a strong appreciation for community and a deeper understanding of how a stable home can impact a family’s life.

Outside of real estate, I’m a huge fan of basketball, cooking and sharing meals with family and friends, and spending time out in nature with my fiancée, Jordyn. I love meeting new people, learning their stories, and finding ways to make a difference in their lives.

So now that we have gotten to know you personally, can you share a bit about your background?

Before becoming a real estate agent, I worked in retail and later took on an inside sales role at a real estate brokerage. Over time, I grew into a leadership position where I gained invaluable insight into the industry. When that brokerage closed its doors, I saw it as the perfect opportunity to pursue my passion for helping people directly as an agent. I’ve since had the privilege of guiding clients through some of the biggest decisions of their lives, whether buying, selling, or leasing a home.

How does the work you do support families with special needs dependents?

As a real estate agent, I strive to help families find homes that truly fit their unique needs, and for families with special needs dependents, this is especially important. I take the time to get to know my clients on a personal level and understand what features or accommodations will make life easier for them in their next home, from accessibility needs to proximity to support services. By working closely with these families, I aim to provide not just a house but a safe and welcoming home that they can create lasting memories in for years to come!

What motivated you to become an SNF Ambassador?

Becoming an SNF Navigation Ambassador felt like a natural fit because I have always been drawn to roles where I can have a lasting positive impact on people's lives. I’ve seen how challenging it can be for families to find the right support for their loved ones, and SNF Navigation offers hope and practical solutions. Being part of a team that truly advocates for these families inspires me to keep finding ways to make a difference.

How do you believe our services can make a difference for the families you refer?

SNF Navigation offers a lifeline to families who often feel overwhelmed by the complexities of caregiving, education systems, or financial planning for their dependents. Your services provide families with tools, guidance, and advocacy that empower them to take the next steps confidently, whether navigating the healthcare system, finding financial resources, or building long-term care plans. By connecting families with SNF Navigation , I know they’re being supported by a team that truly understands and cares about their needs through and through.

In what ways do you see us working together to better support these families?

I see our partnership as an opportunity to bridge gaps. By combining my expertise in real estate with SNF Navigation's specialized knowledge, we can create a holistic support system for families. For example, if a family needs help finding accessible housing, I can work with SNF Navigation to address not just the physical aspects of the home but also other important considerations, such as zoning, school accessibility, and community resources, all while SNF Navigation addresses the broader challenges families face, like financial planning or accessing resources. Together, we can create a seamless experience for families and help them feel supported from every angle.

What advice would you give to other people and organizations looking to better connect and support special needs families?

Start by building relationships based on trust and empathy. It’s important to listen without assumptions and take the time to learn what matters most to each family. I would also encourage everyone, whether you're a single person or an entire organization, to collaborate and share resources—it’s amazing how much more we can accomplish when we work together. And above all, be consistent. Showing up for these families time and time again makes a lasting difference.

And lastly how can people get in touch with you and what can they expect when they do?
